Have You Seen the Trees?

I have a new piece in a tree themed group art show.
I haven't made a paper cut out in quite some time, so I decided to make one for this show.
For this piece I used only one piece of paper without any breaks in the paper.

There will be an opening reception on Saturday, April 9 from 7-10pm.

This show offers an exploration of trees, from their role in the world's mythologies and religions to their role as an important component of the natural landscape. Trees have been given deep and sacred meanings throughout the ages and are seen as powerful symbols of growth, decay and resurrection. More than 25 participating artists.

Gag Me With A Toon 3 at Meltdown Comics

I have a piece in the group art show Gag Me With A Toon 3 at Meltdown Comics in Hollywood.

The theme of this show is 70s & 80s cartoons in which the artists re-interpret their favorite cartoons.
I chose my favorite 80s cartoon rock star Jem and gave her a vintage Art Deco style. Jem is all glamor and decadence.

'Jem- Truly, truly, truly outrageous!'

Rhino Beetle

My piece for the Six-Legged Freaks show opening Saturday April 10th at Cactus Gallery in Eagle Rock (See post below). I wanted it to look like a Victorian studio portrait of a young boy and his pet. I gave it a sepia tone, and "tinted" a couple of areas to make them stand out. The colors look better in person.

Finished piece
Watercolor & Pen

Something I don't show often on here- a work in progress before color and cross hatching.

(Northeast L.A.) Second Saturday Gallery Night will be SWEET!

NELAart Second Saturday Gallery Night is a free self-guided tour of the galleries, non-profits and artist run project spaces located in Northeast Los Angeles (NELA). NELA has a tradition in the arts that dates back to the early 1900's when the USC College of Fine Arts was located in Highland Park and characters like Charles Lummis & Antonio Corsi were living in the area. The tradition continues with new spaces opening regularly. NELA is now one of L.A.'s most exciting destinations to view contemporary art.

Some of LA's best and up and coming food trucks will be EAST SIDE to support NELAart Second Saturday Gallery Night.
